In Loving Memory of Helen Rosemary Sanders Hicks

On Sunday, May 31, at the age of 92, Helen Rosemary Sanders Hicks entered into eternal rest and ascended to Heaven to be with her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Corneila Sanders and Fred Sanders, and her sisters, Doris and Loisteen.

Helen was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School and D.C. Teachers College. She dedicated many years of her life to educating and inspiring young minds as a teacher in the District of Columbia Public Schools. After retiring, she relocated to Florida, embracing the life of a snowbird. Her passion for teaching never faded, and she continued sharing her knowledge and wisdom, especially with her children and grandchildren.

Whether known as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, teacher, or friend, Helen will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, and caring woman. She had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling the world with her beloved husband Peter, family, and friends, creating cherished memories wherever she went.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Peter Hicks; her children, Wendell P. Curtis, Vikki Michelle Curtis, Shawn Hicks, Nikkol Hicks, and Francois Hicks; her daughter-in-law, Cherise Hicks, Paul Daniels; her beloved grandchildren, Tiffanee, Raquel, Tyler, Amara, Darion, Shawn Micah, Simone, Peyton, Zion, Preston, Laila, Pierce, and Francois II; and her sister Corneila Jeanne.

She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, former students, and dear friends who loved and respected her deeply. Helen touched countless lives through her kindness, wisdom, and dedication to others.

Though she is no longer with us, the lessons she taught, the love she shared, and the memories she created will remain forever in our hearts and minds. Her legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

“We will carry all that you gave us and taught us. You will remain forever in our hearts and on our minds. Until we meet again.”
